We post incredible stories of shelter pets finding forever homes all the time; whether they have difficulty due to their colour or special needs, kind and generous people around the world have embraced them with open arms. But would you take in a pet that’s dying?
One family in Georgia, USA did just that. Nicole Elliott saw a Facebook post from her local shelter Animal Ark Rescue asking for hospice for a dog called Chester.
Chester was saved from a kill shelter. After having surgery to remove a large tumor, more have since appeared and surgery is no longer an option. Nicole debated whether she could handle the emotional journey but ultimately decided that she wanted to “try to make his remaining days full of love, and fun.”
Nicole made Chester a ‘bucket list’ for him to experience the normal doggie things that he missed out on.
This included a haul of toys, accessories and treats.
Rides in the car
Nomming on human foods such as hotdogs and ice-cream
Trips to the beach
Experiencing being loved and having a family to call your own
Nicole created a Facebook page for her friends to follow Chester’s journey and it has since become viral. “I was so nervous, but happy to help spread awareness about dogs like Chester,” she told BuzzFeed News. “I hope through all of this attention that it shines a positive light on shelter animals with terminal illnesses or [who are] up in age.”
Thank you Nicole and beautiful people like you for giving love to those that missed out.
