Iris Grace is an amazing artist at the age of just 5! She was diagnosed with autism around 2 years old and found self expression easier through painting instead of speech.
But that all changed when she met Thula, her Maine Coon kitten. Maine Coons are the gentle giants of the cat world and Thula is no exception, although at nearly 1, she’s still got some growing to do.
Thula brought out emotions Iris had difficulties in showing before, especially displaying affection and actively speaking. Iris’ mother observed, “Ever since we came home with this precious magical kitten, she has been casting a spell over Iris through her faithful companionship, natural affinity and gentle nature. New doorways to communication and emotions are opening and Iris is happier than ever before.”
Initially, Iris would move away from Thula when she tried to make body contact. But Thula won Iris over with her persistence and faithful companionship, “There has always been an undeniably strong connection between them right from the beginning, but now I am seeing a change in Iris’s behaviour towards her. She is more tactile and affectionate, massaging Thula’s black paws and letting her fingers seep into her silky coat. While she is on the iPad there is one hand playing a game and the other is stroking her faithful cat who rests beside her.”
“I feel certain that this has had an effect on calming her senses and once again I feel so much gratitude and respect for the new member of the family.”
How much Thula means to this talented little girl? If you look closely at the painting below, you will see a subliminal cat face :3
